About Ben

I have been a music educator all my life and I am currently Head of Music at a large state secondary comprehensive school just outside of Cambridge. Having learned Suzuki violin as a child I sought out the Suzuki approach for our own three children and soon started training myself as a Suzuki piano teacher. Now a Level 4 trained teacher I have had my own teaching studio since 2018 and have also taught at a workshops such as the Early Years Workshop at RCM in London. I love the Suzuki philosophy for its positive and musical approach.

I have had a passion for the Suzuki approach since my eldest child started to study Suzuki piano.  Having attended many hours of my children’s lessons as a Suzuki parent I decided to train as a Suzuki teacher myself.  My day job only affords me time to look after a small Suzuki studio but I like to think that my extensive teaching career and associated love of practical music-making bring something extra to lessons.  We have become a family of musicians, my wife teaching flute and my children playing all sorts of instruments from piano to double bass and trombone.  We even have a pipe-organ in our home!

Aside from playing the piano and violin, I also enjoy walking in the countryside, going to concerts at the local, award-winning Saffron Hall, and spending time with my children.  My Suzuki training has allowed me to teach at piano workshops, take part in piano masterclasses with renowned Suzuki teachers such as Caroline Fraser, Sue Bird, Graham Rix and Jenny Macmillan, and to meet like-minded piano teachers from across Europe and beyond.
